About the restaurant
Ping Restaurant?s interior design has a peculiar Chinese flavour, yet it is subdued and elegant. The glass paintings of the dragon-phoenix couple and of the fairy scattering flowers are flanked by the wall painting of the ? what else? ? Great Wall. And there are of course all the requisites of a proper Chinese restaurant: nice chinaware, beautiful plants, jolly fish ? anything to please the eye. One part of the restaurant has a glass roof that can be opened, so this space has the atmosphere of a small inner courtyard. This is where you can find a pond with goldfish, a small rock garden, plants and waterfall. On hot summer days when the roof is open, it is nice to sit here and enjoy the cool breeze. On harsh winter days no matter how freezing it is outside, you just sit and relax, watching the fish and the waterfall and your heart fills with the hope of the coming spring.
Orr restaurant, which was opened in January 1997, can accommodate 100 patrons at a time. With its near-Rose-Hill location it basically attracts people living in the 1st, the 2nd and the 12th districts, but it often welcomes Chinese delegations coming from mainland China or overseas as well. Our principle is: ?Do your best for your guest!? We hope that our efforts reflect this. Our restaurant offers you more than just the flavours of a narrow region: you can enjoy the best of traditional Chinese cuisine, but there are also ?house? specialities on the menu: meals that have been invented to meet the demands of the Hungarian public. Chinese tourist groups coming to Hungary need not feel far from home, since it is our chef?s special concern to treat them with the tastes they like best. No matter where you come from, you will not leave disappointed.
We are proud to say that several Hungarian celebrities have been our guests. Among the regular visitors we can list MPs, ministers, foreign diplomats, artists, actors, sportsmen, well-known media personalities. It is a real reward for all these years of hard work that our restaurant is said to be the best Chinese restaurant in Budapest. Chinese guests coming from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and other countries also seem to be content with our food and service. There are times when Chinese tourist groups start and end their Europe round tour in Budapest, having their first and final meals in our restaurant. We can often hear them say: ?The best meals of the whole tour were the two in Budapest!?
In 2000 the Hungarian Caterers? Association decided to make a list of the best Hungarian restaurants, in response to the ?black list of Hungarian restaurants? that the US Embassy had just published. They did a thorough job collecting ideas from the public to make a comprehensive ?honour roll?. To our greatest joy our restaurant was selected, receiving at the same time the official recommendation of the Hungarian Caterers? Association. It is a truly prestigious position, since among all Chinese restaurants and over a hundred Chinese fast food restaurants, only ours has been found worthy of being selected. The Chinese name of our restaurant is ?YI-HE Restaurant?. This unusual name is to symbolize our deepest concern: the well-being of our guests. May our restaurant be able to live up to its name!
